Kashmir under Siege | Commemoration Event on the Death Anniversary of Syed Ali Shah Geelani

A conference was organized to honor the esteemed Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani, at a local hotel in Islamabad on 1st of September, 2023 by Kashmir Youth Alliance. The event featured several prominent figures, including Federal Minister for Human Rights, Mushaal Mullick, Hurriyat Leader and President of Kashmir Youth Alliance Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani, Senior Journalist Hamid Mir, Retired Lt. Gen. Asad Durrani, Brig. Rehman Bilal, General Alam Khattak, Former Senator Sehar Kamran, and Secretary General of Kashmir Youth Alliance Razi Tahir. Seeba Ejaz and Azra Alam hosted the event.

Mushaal Mullick expressed, “Allah has blessed the Kashmiri nation with some of the world’s bravest leaders and among them is Syed Ali Geelani who authored more than 30 books and dedicated every moment of his life to the struggle. He serves as an exemplary figure for both Pakistan and Kashmir. It is essential for our youth to delve into Syed Ali Gilani’s life and literary contributions and share his message far and wide.”

“Syed Ali Geelani had expressed his desire to be laid to rest in the martyrs’ graveyard, but India clandestinely buried him during the night, transforming his final resting place into an inaccessible prison where even offering Fatiha is impossible”, she added.

Sharing her memories, she said that when I met late Syed Ali Geelani, he showered me with affection and commended my sacrifice in traveling from Pakistan to Occupied Kashmir. He held a deep paternal affection for Yasin Malik.

Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani President of Kashmir Youth Alliance and Hurriyat leader, remarked, “Syed Ali Geelani’s rallying, ‘We are Pakistanis, Pakistan is ours,’ resonates with every Kashmiri. This ideology remains etched in the hearts of the youth of Occupied Kashmir.”

Veteran journalist Hamid Mir added, “Words alone cannot capture the essence of Syed Ali Geelani. He was an exceptional Hurriyat leader, and I had the privilege of engaging with him on two occasions. His unwavering dedication to the Kashmir cause was evident.”

Lt General (R) Asad Durrani lamented, “We have not done justice to Kashmir; our leaders failed to reciprocate the love bestowed upon us by the people of Kashmir. Sadly, the Kashmir cause has been neglected.”

Former Senator Sehar Kamran concluded by saying, “The nation pays its respects to Syed Ali Geelani for his invaluable contributions and services.”

At the end of the event, shields were distributed among the guests and organizers.
