“One World, One Struggle” Conference Spotlights Kashmir and Palestine at University of the Punjab

Lahore: A one-day conference titled “One World, One Struggle: Across the Border for Human Rights” was organized at the University of the Punjab by the Department of Media Sciences under the patronage of Dr. Abida Ashraf and Dr. Amjad Magsi. The other departments of the School of Media Studies also actively participated in organizing the conference.

The prominent speakers included the President of the Kashmir Youth Alliance, Dr. Syed Mujahid Gillani; Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmed; renowned lawyer Ahmer Bilal Sufi; credible journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami; and Dr. Bushra Hameed-ur-Rehman.

In his talk, Dr. Gillani highlighted the atrocities being carried out in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir using a PowerPoint presentation. He also explained the parallels between Srinagar and Gaza and the shared resistance that connects both nations as resilient communities. Dr. Gillani further emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine are not treated as normal human beings by the West, unlike individuals from other nation-states.

Ahmer Bilal Sufi discussed the international legal aspects of both conflict zones, explaining how the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been wronged and subjected to draconian laws. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, in his talk, described the historical context of how the Kashmir and Palestine conflicts have been highlighted in United Nations resolutions and applauded the resilience of the oppressed people of both regions.

At the end, Dr. Abida Ashraf thanked all the speakers, and a book authored by Dr. Qasim Faktoo, the longest-serving political prisoner of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir was presented to the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly and to Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami.
