November 2025: A seminar titled “Iqbal and his Vision on Kashmir” was held at The University of Faisalabad by the Social Sciences Department. The event was graced by the presence of the Dean of Social Sciences and several other prominent speakers including President Kashmir Youth Alliance Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani and Executive Director Youth For Kashmir Zaman Bajwa.

The event aimed at rediscovering the poet of the east, Allama Muhammad Iqbal and his vision and verses on Kashmir. Allama Muhammad Iqbal belonged originally to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and his poetic work has delineated the beauty of the valley of Jammu and Kashmir. He has also highlighted the injustices carried out during the Dogra raaj and the British colonial rule in the state of Jammu and Kashmir which holds marked relevance in today’s world.

The speakers explained the brilliance of Allama’s verses and the way his lyrics about the injustice and colonial mindset of the hegemonic regimes of his time apply to the contemporary era as well. Dr. Mujahid Gilani in his presentation displayed various verses from different poetic collections of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and extrapolated numerous stanzas to the contemporary settler colonialism that is perpetuated by the Hindutva regime.

The other speakers also shed light on how Iqbal derived his philosophy from religion and considered Quran and Shari’ah as the foundation of his poetry. The audience was very keen and actively participated by putting up questions about the Indian occupation in Jammu and Kashmir. The event ended with a note of thanks by the Dean of Social Sciences.
