Kashmir Cause and the Role of Diaspora: A Roundtable Discussion at IRS

A roundtable discussion was held at Institute of Regional Studies under the topic, Kashmir cause and the role of diaspora, its opportunities and challenges. President Kashmir Youth Alliance, Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani was also among the penalists. Other speakers included Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, Mushaal Mullick, Farzana Yaqoob and Altaf Hussain Wani. The panel discussed the role of diaspora in promoting the Kashmiri cause.

Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani particularly emphasized the need for having knowledge of the ground situation and knowing the pulse of the people of IIOJK. He also encouraged the Kashmiri professionals to come forward and engage with the respective disciplines internationally to promote the Kashmir cause and awareness about the conflict.

He quoted several examples about how India is maliciously trying to change the ground situation in its favor, molding the aspirations and aims of the younger generation. He said that this necessitates the need for more effort from the youth to be aware and enhance the world’s awareness about the actual state of affairs.

Other speakers expressed concern about the lack of literature based on Kashmiri conflict and pointed out the need for combating Indian misinformation schemes. The penalists also appreciated the efforts of diaspora in the UK and US for being at the forefront and never letting the cause rest.
