On 5th February 2024, an important press conference was conducted in Islamabad by the President KYA Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani on the occasion of the day of remembrance. Dr. Gilani mentioned that Dr. Qasim Faktoo, the husband of Syeda Asiya Andrabi, has completed 31 years behind bars after the Indian government convicted him in a fabricated murder case.
He reiterated the mission and struggles which led Dr. Qasim to his enduring sentence. His term of imprisonment has surpassed that of Nelson Mandela who was incarcerated for 27 years for his anti-apartheid resistance struggle. Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani described Dr. Qasim’s condition in jail and appealed to the world for intervening in the release of all the political prisoners including Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmida Sofi, Masarat Alam Bhat and Yaseen Malik.
