An interaction of digital media journalists with President KYA Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani and the son of Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Ahmed bin Qasim took place in Islamabad on the occasion of martyrdom anniversary of Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

The speakers discussed the impact Burhan’s life and martyrdom etched on the Kashmiri freedom struggle. The journalists present in the audience included Faisal Tarrar, Razi Tahir, Nadir Baloch, Syed Hammad Naqvi, Qamar Mekan, Usama Haider, Amir Nawaz, Gohar Siyal, Zeeshan Ali and others.

Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani described how the name of Burhan Muzaffar Wani made it all the way to United Nations General Assembly along with it being lauded in the capital city of Pakistan with a walk being arranged in remembrance. He was the epitome of freedom struggle, an entire movement in and of himself and should be remembered as such. Dr. Mujahid Gilani also laid emphasis on the fact that the nations who do not applaud and follow the ways of their heroes set themselves up for destruction and eventually perish.

Ahmed bin Qasim highlighted the major objective of the entire struggle, which is, liberating Kashmir from the shackles of Indian occupier.  He said young men like Burhan will not give up weapons even if India removes all its forces from the valley and launches mega projects of development and education for the Kashmiris. The war shall continue till the goal is achieved which is when the valley finds deliverance from the occupier. The funerals of heroes like Burhan and Mannan Wani used to be a referendum of sorts for the world to see, massive groups of people chanting slogans of hate for the occupier, love for freedom and its torchbearers. These funerals are now avoided by the Indian government by refusing to hand over bodies of the martyrs to their families.

He said Burhan is not supposed to be remembered like an object at a museum, someone thought of on some particular days of the year. Rather, he is an ideology which is to be propagated, revered and kept alive on all platforms.

The session ended with a brief Q&A session.
